General Lighting Tips

Use blue lenses on MR16 lamps to accent crystal chandeliers
to create an “Ice Effect”.

Use krypton lamps on glass or silver arm chandeliers. They produce
more lumens per watt and remain white in color
even as you dim.

Use amber chandelier lamps on bronze and antique brass chandeliers
to blend with the metal and maintain the
warm glow.

Use blue lenses on landscape lighting fixtures to bring out
the green in the landscape.

Dimming traditional incandescent light sources only 10% can
double your lamp life. Dimming 50% can extend lamp
life as much as 20 times.

To properly size a dining room fixture, measure the width of
your table. The fixture diameter should not be smaller
than half the width or larger than the table width minus 12”.
There are also oval and rectangular dining room
options.

For proper dining room fixture hanging height, on an 8-9’
ceiling, the bottom of the fixture should be 30” above
the table top. For every foot
the ceiling height increases, you can increase your distance
over the table by 1”.

For your recessed lighting, you can achieve exactly the same
photometry (amount of light output) by using a 12 volt
50 watt MR16 lamp instead of a 120 volt 75 watt PAR 30 lamp.
This also allows for a 4” hole instead of a 6” hole
in your ceiling. Both are fully
dimmable.

Every room should have 3 to 5 layers of light. Layers can consist
of general recessed lighting, hanging light
fixtures,
accent lighting, up-lighting, cove or indirect lighting, wall sconces,
portable table and floor lamps, etc.
